Top CV tips from Marble
Thursday November 8 2007
There’s no denying that CV writing is pretty tough. To ease the process, we’ve put together our top tips for writing a clear and concise CV. If you stick to this format, your CV will look good and flow nicely for the reader…
1. To highlight your achievements write your CV using the following headings in the following order.
- personal details
- personal profile
- key skills
- career history
- education
- training courses
2. To show your ability to write clearly and succinctly, keep your
CV to two sides of A4. Anything longer is too long and will be
off-putting for any reader
3. To show that you have good presentation skills use a lot of white
space on your CV. Write the body of the text in Arial 11pts, and use
Arial 12pts bold for the headings. Use bullet points to break up a long
paragraph
4. Don’t try to do anything fancy with boxes, lines, clip art or
anything resembling clip art. Many recruitment or HR consultants will
re-format your CV into a house style, or email your CV on to other
people to see. Most of these little details will get lost in the
process.
5. Under the ‘career history’ heading, list your jobs in
‘reverse-chronological’ order; that means your most recent job comes
first in the list. Be sure to identify anything significant that you
accomplished in each job role so that prospective employers get a feel
for how you can perform over and above what you are asked to do.
