We're among the happiest workers in Britain!
11th June 2008
Wales has one of the happiest workforces in the UK, according to the fifith annual City & Guilds Happines Index. With an average happiness rating of seven out of 10, Wales is the UK's fifth happiest region.
But, not all Welsh people are whistling while they work - 14% feel unhappy in their careers, reporting happiness levels of less than three out of 10.
The Welsh care more about money than other regions, with one in four giving this as the most important factor for on-the-job happiness. But workers in other parts of the UK are sending a surprising message to employers: the size of a payslip does not guarantee happiness and fulfilment at work:
- 57% have remained with their employer as a result of a strong interest in what they do for a living
- 56% stay because of good relationships with colleagues
- 48% of the UK's workforce appreciate their work / life balance
- By contrast, only 44% of us remain in the job as a direct result of salary
